Which Chest Exercise Is Most Important?

Of all the different muscles that are worked at the gym regularly, it tends to be the chest that gets the most attention. As a matter of fact, most men and the majority of women will go to the gym and start out with bench press exercises. Although it certainly is possible for you to do thisĀ chest exercise regularly, it should not be the staple of your exercise routine. As a matter of fact, there is another exercise which is even more important than doing the chest directly, and it may surprise you exactly how it is able to work.

Before I continue, I want to tell you that I am by no means saying that you should not be doing the bench press or some variety of it. Not only is this an excellent exercise for the chest muscles, it also is a multi-joint exercise that can work everything from the arms all the way to the abdominal muscles. Although it does help if you mix things up a little bit by using dumbbells from time to time, the basic bench press is something that will always be the core of any good exercise routine.

That being said, there is something that many bodybuilders are overlooking which can really have an impact on their overall chest muscle growth. If you want to get as large as possible and see the most out of your workouts, you must make sure that you’re working your legs along with your chest. Doing core exercises, such as the seated leg press, squat and dead lift are going to put your body into a position where it is going to build muscle in every area, not just the legs. It does this by releasing chemicals and hormones which are specifically made to make the body grow.

Another thing that you may want to consider is changing to high-intensity workouts instead of doing multiple sets of the same exercise. One of the reasons why this is beneficial is because it helps to break the body down, each and every time you exercise it. In doing so, it also gives it the opportunity to be built up whenever you are at rest. I like to do one set of bench press on a weekly basis and I do it to absolute failure. By the time I’m done working out, I cannot budge the bar a single inch. Of course, that means that I’m going to need a spotter in order to do the exercise but I have seen phenomenal growth as a result.

The most important thing is that you don’t lock yourself into doing a single exercise and that you make sure you are being balanced in all things that you do. If you do this regularly, you will see growth in your chest and other muscles as well.
